The nominations are out for the MIPCOM Cannes Diversify TV Awards and it’s great to see that JoJo & Gran Gran’s It’s Time to Braid Hair episode has made the cut.
Dedicated to championing and promoting diversity and inclusion in all its forms across the international television industry, the 8th edition of MIPCOM CANNES Diversify TV Awards will take place in Cannes during MIPCOM on October 22.
JoJo & Gran Gran is one of three finalists in the Representation of Diversity in Kids Programming – Pre-School category.
The show is produced for CBeebies by BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions, in association with our team here at A Productions, who produced the animation. The show, which is inspired by characters created by Laura Henry-Allain MBE, celebrates that special relationship between a grandparent and a child. A Productions worked on all three series.
In It’s Time to Braid Hair, at Charlene’s hair salon, JoJo sees a picture of a girl with hair braids and asks if Gran Gran braid her hair? It’s time for a Gran Gran plan with some help from Charlene. You can view the episode on BBC iPlayer here.
Katherine McQueen, joint managing director at A Productions, said: “It’s fantastic to see further recognition of the hugely positive impact JoJo & Gran Gran has had on young audiences. We hope that this very special show paves the way for better representation of our wonderfully diverse society in pre-school programming. Big strides have been made but there is still more work to be done.”
