School pupils offered insight into animation industry

Pupils at City Academy Bristol learnt about the world of animation production last week when members of the A Productions team hosted an assembly.

Joanna Hepworth, Hannah Murdoch and Mohamed Orekan

Joanna Hepworth, director at A Productions, explained the different roles available within an animation production studio, from writer to producer, from rigger to storyboarder, and from editor to composer, and the skills needed for each.

Mohamed Orekan told the Year 10 pupils about his journey to become an animation director, whilst they also heard about the work experience opportunities on offer at A Productions.

Hannah Murdoch, welfare and HR manager at A Productions, said: “It was important to us to show the pupils that there are so many different ways to be involved in animation production, with some roles requiring creativity whilst others need excellent organisational skills or a love of maths.

“It’s vital that we undertake outreach work in schools to inspire the next generation into the animation industry and to help create a diverse and thriving workforce.
