A Productions are looking for experienced Compositors to join our team on a children’s animated television series.
Working as part of a team, you will be responsible for creating final shot output files using Adobe After Effects, combining multiple rendered layers from our Maya and Unreal Engine pipeline to produce high-quality finished shots ready for delivery to editorial.
The role will also involve creating motion graphics and visual effects, resolving technical and visual issues, and collaborating closely with our CG team to ensure that shots move efficiently through the final stages of production.
You will work closely with the Director, CG Supervisor, VFX Supervisor and other members of the production team to ensure that shots maintain the established visual style of the series and are delivered consistently and efficiently to broadcast quality.
Responsibilities
Compositing & Shot Finishing
- Composite multiple rendered layers and passes from the CG department using Adobe After Effects, creating final shot output files for delivery to editorial.
- Combine character, environment, lighting and effects passes to achieve the required final look of each shot.
- Ensure visual consistency and continuity across shots, sequences and episodes.
- Make colour, exposure and other visual adjustments to maintain the established style of the series.
- Carry out minor technical fixes and clean-up work, including noise reduction, artefact removal and other corrections where appropriate.
- Undertake screen replacements and other compositing tasks as required.
- Review finished shots for technical and visual issues before delivery.
- Prepare and deliver completed shots in accordance with the production’s technical specifications and delivery requirements.
Motion Graphics & Visual Effects
- Work with the Director, CG Supervisor and VFX Supervisor to create motion graphics and visual effects as required, including sparkles, glows, custom transitions and other stylised effects.
- Create and adapt motion graphics for use within individual shots and sequences.
- Prepare and deliver motion graphics elements back to the CG department for integration into Unreal Engine scenes.
- Ensure motion graphics and composited effects are consistent with the established visual style of the series.
Collaboration & Workflow
- Work closely with the CG lighting and rendering team to ensure that appropriate render layers and passes are supplied for compositing.
- Provide clear feedback to the CG department regarding technical issues, missing or additional render passes, and any improvements required to incoming renders.
- Identify issues that can be resolved efficiently in compositing and those that require corrections or re-renders from the CG department.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure that completed content meets the production’s expectations for quality, consistency and style.
- Respond to creative, technical and logistical feedback from the Director, Animation Director and production team.
- Maintain organised project files, compositions and versioning, following established naming conventions and production pipeline requirements.
- Update production tracking systems and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Work closely with production to ensure shots progress smoothly through the pipeline and are delivered to schedule.
Skills & Experience
- At least 2 years of professional experience working in television, film or animation production, ideally on broadcast animated series.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and experience compositing multiple CG render layers and passes.
- A good understanding of compositing principles, including colour correction, layering, mattes, blending modes and visual integration.
- Strong understanding of colour, lighting, exposure and visual consistency.
- Good knowledge of the CG animation production pipeline and the relationship between lighting, rendering, compositing and editorial.
- Ability to identify and resolve technical issues within rendered material.
- Strong creative and observational skills, with an excellent eye for detail and an understanding of the importance of continuity.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple shots, compositions, versions and deadlines.
- Good communication skills and experience working collaboratively with artists, directors and production teams.
