A Productions is offering a free animation training course for complete newcomers to the animation production industry, set to take place from Monday 23rd November to Friday 27th November this year.
Participants in A Productions’ previous training course
This 2D animation course has been designed to teach participants the skills needed to become a scene build artist. The training will be in person at A Productions’ Bristol studio on Colston Street.
During the course, each participant will be offered an interview with A Productions’ hiring team, and one successful candidate will secure a 12-month contract as a scene build artist on a pre-school series.
Treasure Bayona joined the A Productions team after taking part in the studio’s last free training course. You can read more about her experience here.
Katherine McQueen, managing director at A Productions, said: “We are very excited to be able to offer this free animation course once again to those who may be wondering how they can kick-start a career in the animation industry. We are passionate about supporting non-traditional routes into the industry, with this course just one of the ways we make this happen, whilst it’s hugely important to us to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment at the studio where everyone can fulfil their potential.”
So, what is a scene prep artist? Animated scenes consist of many different parts – the background picture, the characters, props, foreground elements and also the audio track containing the character voices and sound effects.
Scene build artists are responsible for collecting all these parts, putting them together in the right order and then creating the actual look of the shot by placing the characters in the right position and using the camera to create a beautifully composed scene ready for the animators. This is all done in industry-standard software called Toon Boom Harmony.
The deadline for applications to the course is November 6. More details here.
